BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR AIS AT THIS TIME OF YEAR...

Labor Day is fast approaching and many Berrylakers will be taking out their docks and boats this weekend dnrdnrdnr (where did the summer go???).  As you do, the BLPOA is asking that you be on the lookout for mussels on your dock poles and boat bottoms.  Small zebra and quagga mussels will feel like sandpaper when you rub your hand across.

If you suspect a sighting, gently scrape the mussels into a jar of water or rubbing alcohol and contact Jed Lyness at jed.lyness@gmail.com.  We will need to send in a sample for positive ID.  We've been lucky here so far, and this is a perfect time to be monitoring for them as ALL Berrylakers will be performing this end of summer task within the next few weeks. Thanks in advance for your cooperation on this.

FRESHWATER JELLYFISH have now been officially entered into our list of invasive species here at Berry Lake after being sited on the south shore near the NGYC. They are considered to be an invasive species as they are not native to Wisconsin.  However, according to the DNR they don't know of any ecological impacts that they've caused in Wisconsin lakes since they were introduced here back in the 60's.  One speculation is that as the jellyfish consume zooplanton (which is normally eaten by small fish) that there may be some negative impacts taking place.  They are very interesting to come across so keep your eyes open as they're most often seen at this time of year!

ANNUAL 4TH OF JULY COMPETITION - "ON SAFARI" BOAT PARADE!
Berry Lake held its annual 4th of July compe
tition again this year and the boat parade theme was "ON SAFARI @ BERRY LAKE". 8 families competed this year including the Watry/Stiles, the Cismoski's, the Waters, the Weyenberg's, and the Arnoldussen's.

Coming in first place were the Asselmeir/Stein families with their JUNGLE BOOGIE theme...they danced and boogied all around the lake with jungle music blaring! In second place was the Holman family for their CANNIBALISM-themed entry...yummy! And in third place was the Gamsky family for their SNIPE PATROL boat...their "snipe" was a real sport in his costume!

Click here to see our blog with photos of the festivities (submitted by Sara Stiles, Jill DePrey and Kay Rankel-Gamsky).
