ICE ON!!!
We had our first snow flurries at the lake this year on 10-27, and it's time to start thinking about our ICE ON contest! "ICE ON" refers to the first day that Berry Lake is completely covered in ice, and remains that way for a 24 hour period.
FYI...in 2007 this day was on 11-23, and in 2006 it was on 12-2.
What's your guess??? Email your guess to berrylakewi@gmail.com...the BLPO member coming closest to this date will win a prize!
UPDATE ON TREE DROPS @ BERRY LAKE...
Awhile back, the Berry Lake board sent out an inquiry to all on our email list asking for your input regarding dropping trees here to create better fish habitat. The DNR's power point presentation was also mailed out to all. Of the 120+ property owners here at Berry Lake, only 10 people responded back on this (5 were for the dropping of trees, 2 were for it but expressed concerns, and 3 were against it). Very few Berrylakers attended the DNR's presentation by David Rowe over Labor Day weekend, which was arranged by the BLPO board.
Based on the lack of interest in this issue at this time (and also taking into account the overwhelming show of hands at our annual meeting against the dropping of trees here), the BLPO board will not be moving forward with any coordinated efforts to drop trees in our lake this winter.
Please be aware that if an individual wants to drop a tree on their property, that they will need to apply for a permit through the DNR. The board is asking that if anyone decides to do this on their own, that they provide a courtesy notice to us via email at berrylakewi@gmail.com; and also that they seek approval from their neighbors before doing so. More information to follow in our Berry Lake Fall Newsletter.
